North Greenville defeated the Valkyries of Converse College 2-0 to move to 4-1 in conference play and 5-2 overall. The Crusaders are now tied for 3rd place with Belmont Abbey in the Conference Carolinas standings. Ayden Boatwright scored both goals while Megan Biehl put up a season-high 9 shots.
The match began on a calm note with only one shot being recorded between the two teams in the first ten minutes. After a wide shot from Ryan Kite, Megan Biehl would post the next five shots but would be unable to score. However, Ayden Boatwright then scored her first goal of the season to the put the Crusaders up by one at the 40 minute mark. The half would end without Converse posting a shot.
A fast start to the second half resulted in NGU posting the first four shots, including a second goal by Boatwright off a free kick just seven minutes in. Ariana Parsons, who took the free kick, recorded the assist. Eleven minutes into the second half, the Valkyries would record their first shot of the match, which was wide right. The NGU offense would go right back to work, but a tough Converse defense was able to prevent another goal from scoring. The Valkyries did record a second shot with ten minutes remaining, but the clock would eventually hit zero to make the shutout official.
NGU will return to nonconference play on Wednesday, October 9th to take on the Carson-Newman Eagles in Tigerville.
