Tigerville, SC - North Greenville was able to hold off the Barton Bulldogs with a 3-2 victory this afternoon in Tigerville, South Carolina. A scoreless first half was followed by a second-half that produced five goals with North Greenville leading in shots 14-11. Karly Denaburg was the player of the game with four shots, a goal, and an assist.
The first shot of the match would come just three minutes in by Karly Denaburg. Barton followed up with the next three shots with two of those being saved by Brianna Rowe and the third being wide. Around thirty minutes into the half, Megan Biehl put up a header that was saved by Rachel Cox. NGU put up two additional shots within the final fifteen minutes, but the match would ultimately remain scoreless at the half.
Following two header shots, North Greenville would finally get on the board eleven minutes into the second half. Karly Denaburg scored the goal with assists by Shelby Shepherd and Megan Biehl. Barton's next shot would also result in a goal, Syaani Harris' fourth of the season. The tied score would not last long as the Crusaders would strike again when Natalie Johnson took a shot that resulted in a mistake by Cox that allowed the ball to roll in. Natalie’s goal was assisted by Kayla Cruse. NGU would instantly strike again with a goal by Alyssa Mendez and assists by Karly Denaburg and Maggie Schopp. With ten minutes remaining, the Bulldogs struck back with a goal by Kassie Krul. BC would put up one last shot late in the match, but the Crusaders were able to hang on for the win.
North Greenville returns to action on Wednesday, September 25th to take on the Limestone Saints in Gaffney, SC.
