Eddie Taubensee

Eddie Taubensee joined the North Greenville University baseball program in 2023 as a volunteer assistant coach.

A former Major League catcher, Taubensee played 11 seasons in the big leagues with the Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros, and Cincinnati Reds. He was originally selected by the Reds in the sixth round of the 1986 MLB Draft before being taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 1990 Rule 5 Draft. He was later claimed by Cleveland and made his Major League debut on May 18, 1991.

Taubensee enjoyed a standout season in 1999 with Cincinnati, batting .311 with a career-high 21 home runs and a .521 slugging percentage. He appeared in 131 games that season, recording 127 hits and driving in 73 runs while helping lead the Reds’ offense.

Following his playing career, Taubensee transitioned into coaching, gaining experience at the professional, collegiate, and high school levels. His professional coaching career included a stint as hitting coach for the Augusta GreenJackets.

In addition to his work in baseball, Taubensee and his wife, Rene, spent 15 years involved with Pro Athletes Outreach, a ministry supporting professional baseball players, coaches, and their families.

Taubensee and his wife have been married for 30 years and are the parents of three sons. His son, Matthew Taubensee, was a pitcher for the Trailblazers and was part of North Greenville’s 2022 Division II National Championship team, sharing that milestone with his father on staff.
