SWEEP! Offense powers North Greenville past Belmont Abbey

Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville piled on 20-hits in Thursday’s double-header en route to an 8-3/7-4 sweep of Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas play.

The Crusaders dished out eight, extra base hits during the league sweep including five homers and three doubles. Morgan Roach led the team with two bombs in the first game, while Shayna Finley and Kaitlyn Wagers also delivered a dinger. Also getting in on the long ball action was Kate Lee who delivered her third homer of the season.

North Greenville led 2-1 as game one headed into the fourth inning. Wagers and Morgan Roach would homer during the frame to extend the lead to three runs. Roach tacked on a three run blast in the sixth to push the lead to 7-1.

Amanda Croffin earned the game one win after tossing 5.2 innings, allowing one earned run while striking out five. Anna Rodgers also threw an inning for NGU allowing two runs on three hits. Wagers was 3-3 with three RBI while Roach was 2-4 with two RBI.

The bats continued to produce in game two, pounding out another set of homers as well as three doubles. Lee’s opposite field, two run blast in the second inning extended NGU’s lead to 5-1, while Shayna Finley gave the Crusaders some insurance in the fifth with a solo blast that made the score 7-4.

Finley would also deliver one of NGU’s three doubles along with Brooke Wade and Grace DeBoer. Abbey trailed until the third inning but tacked on four runs, three of which came on one hit. Croffin also earned the game two win after throwing another four innings, holding the Crusaders scoreless with two strikeouts.

NGU had five players with two base hits including Lee and Megan Johnson who led the team with two RBI each. Shayna Finley was 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

North Greenville improved to 26-16 overall and 12-4 in league play. The Crusaders will take on league leading Pfeiffer on April 13th in Misenheimer, North Carolina.
