SWEEP! North Greenville takes two from Barton

Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville added another conference sweep to its resume on Saturday afternoon with a pair of wins over Barton College, 8-0 and 3-1.

Kate Lee got things started in the first inning with a three-run homer to give North Greenville a 3-0 lead. The NGU lead was safe with the solid pitching performance from starter Brooklyn Fort. Fort threw five innings, allowing just two hits with four punch-outs. The Bulldogs had just four base runners in the five-inning game and were 0-6 with runners in scoring position.

The Crusaders didn’t need any more runs to win the game, but they added more offense in the fifth inning to run-rule the visiting Bulldogs. A five run fifth would do the trick, as five runs would scratch on six hits. Morgan Herlong and Brook Wade did the most damage with a pair of two RBI singles.

The inning started with a single from Shayna Finley who eventually came around to score two batters later on an RBI single from Megan Johnson. Finley finished the day 1-2 with a pair of runs scored while Johnson was 1-2 with a run and an RBI. Heather Wade led the team with two hits to go along with two RBI while Kate Lee’s three RBI led all players.

The Crusaders used a three-run second inning in game two and another solid pitching and defensive performance to earn their second league sweep of the season. Wade’s third hit of the day scored the first run of the game with Morgan Herlong coming across to score to give North Greenville a 1-0 lead.

Shayna Finley got in on the action with an RBI sac fly to extend the lead to two runs, scoring Greer Killman while Herlong also added another RBI single to score Kate Lee to start the inning.

Amanda Croffin was the winning pitcher in game two, throwing seven innings for North Greenville. Croffin allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out six. Brooke Wade was 2-3 with an n RBI to lead the Crusaders on offense. Shayna Finley was hitless but accounted for an RBI while Morgan Herlong was 1-3 with a run and an RBI.

North Greenville improved to 19-13 overall and 5-1 in league play. The Crusaders host Erskine College on March 22nd with a 1pm first pitch scheduled.
