Burlington, N.C.--Rachel Glazebrook collected her second shutout of the tournament, allowing just one Cobra hit, while striking out five, leading the Crusaders to a 9-0 mercy rule win, earning them a trip to Sunday’s Conference Carolinas tournament championship series.
Courtney Campbell led the way for NGU offensively going 3-4 with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Kansas Wofford had her second straight solid game with a 2-4 performance. Wofford also scored a run. North Greenville took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. Tori Freedman led off the inning with a double, and would later come around to score the first run of the game on Courtney Campbell’s RBI single. Kansas Wofford would extend NGU’s lead to 2-0 with an RBI single of her own, scoring Campbell from second base.
The Crusaders then took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, before breaking the game open in the sixth. The Crusaders scored six runs in the frame, 8 hits, including a base clearing triple from Kimberly Robertson that scored Sarah Armstrong, Kansas Wofford, Marielena Santos. Santos finished the day 2-3 with a run scored. Freedman and Campbell would also add RBI’s in the inning to give the Crusaders a commanding 9-0 cushion.
The Trojans would be retired on three straight fly outs in the bottom half of the frame, advancing the Crusaders to their second consecutive Conference Carolinas championship. The Crusaders will now sit back and wait for their opponent. NGU is scheduled to play Sunday afternoon at 3pm, against the winner of Coker College, and the winner of the King College vs. Mount Olive game, scheduled for 11am tomorrow.
