Tigerville, S.C.—North Greenville finished the day at 9-8-1 in Conference Carolinas play, and Mount Olive improved to a league best 11-3 as the two squads traded wins on Monday afternoon at Pepsi Softball Field. The Crusaders took game one 3-2 and the Trojans bounced back with a 4-2 triumph in game two.


Both offenses came out firing in the first inning. Mount Olive took an early 2-0 on Savannah Bec’s single that platted two. North Greenville answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning on Amy Nagel’s sacrifice fly to right field, platting Kimberly Robertson.

NGU’s one run first capped the scoring for either team until the late innings. The Crusaders threatened several times, but were unable to take advantage of runners in scoring position in the second and fourth innings. NGU stranded 10 runners all together.

North Greenville was able to even the score at 2-2 in the fifth inning when Rachel Glazebrook crossed on Tori Freedman’s groundball to second base. Glazebrook, who also pitched for the Crusaders in game one, would come through in the bottom of the sixth with a single that would score the go ahead, and game winning RBI for the Crusaders. Sarah Armstrong would be credited with the run.

Glazebrook finished the game going 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Kimberly Robertson finished 2-4 with a run scored, and Tori Freedman went 3-3. Glazebrook finished game one on the mound allowing two earned runs on four hits and 10 strikeouts.

North Grenville would take the lead early in game one when Sarah Armstrong raced home on a wild pitch to give the Crusaders a 1-0 edge in the first inning. NGU’s one run first would cap the scoring until the fourth inning when the Trojans broke through for two runs of their own.

Like North Greenville, Moutn Olive College’s first run was platted on a wild pitch, evening the score at 1-1. The Trojans would go on to plate another run on an NGU error to take a 2-1 edge on the Crusaders. NGU would escape further damage stranding two of Mount Olive’s base runners.

The Trojans added two more runs in the sixth inning on a two run blast from Tiffany Hawl, handing the Trojans a 4-1 lead. North Greenville would cut the lead in half in the sixth inning on a ground role double from Kimberly Robertson platting Sarah Armstrong for the second time. The Trojans would get a base runner in the seventh, but teams were held scoreless, ending the game. Madison Johnston earned the win for the Trojans after allowing two runs on six hits.
