Aiken, S.C.—The NGU softball team fell to 1-5 on the season on Wednesday after dropping a double header to the #20th ranked Pacers 1-0 and 4-3.

The University of South Carolina Aiken is the 2nd consecutive series the Crusaders have had with a top 20 team. NGU showed a few signs of rust at the plate on Wednesday having not played a game in over a week, due to weather cancellations. NGU was hitless in game one, having just three base runners in the seven inning contest. Sarah Armstrong reached base twice on walks for NGU and Courtney Campbell found her way to the base path with one base on balls.

On the mound for NGU in game one was ace right hander Rachel Glazebrook. Glazebrook was solid as usual, giving up just one run on three hits, while adding six strikeouts to her team leading 30. Two of the Pacers three hits came in the 4th inning. Sarah Montei’s led the inning off with a double and later scored on a single up the middle by Nicole Borden. Glazebrook would escape further damage, striking the next batter to end the inning.

The Pacers picked up one more hit in the 5th but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. North Greenville’s baser runners found their way on base in the first three innings. NGU’s best chance to score came in the second inning. Jordan Farmer reached base after being hit by a pitch, and found her way to third base on sacrifice bunts from Tori Freedman and Amy Nagel. The Crusaders were unable to capitalize on the opportunity after a strikeout with two down, ended the inning. The Crusaders had runners in scoring position each of the next two innings but were unable to capitalize.
