Mars Hill split with solid hits

Today at home, North Greenville Softball won their first game against Mars Hill, 2-1. However, “They just couldn’t get their bats going in the second,” said Coach Jan McDonald. The Crusaders lost the second game 1-6.

Kristyn Smith got the win for the first game – a total shutout and outstanding performance. “She pitched, what I thought, was her best game of the year,” said McDonald.

Lindsey Eargle came through with a big 2-out hit and knocked in both runs of the game, giving her two RBIs and the winning hit of the game.

Defense played great in the first game without a single error. “Defense truly played great all day,” said McDonald.

“Bridget Watson came out and hit well for us today. It was really good to see her come through and hit for us as a senior, that’s always a really good sign,” said McDonald.

Despite Watson’s strong efforts at bat and an excellent defensive game, the Crusaders still fell to Mars Hill in the second. Taylor Roof pitched a good game but gave up a 3-run-homerun in the fifth inning that Crusaders just could not seem to come back from.

“Getting a split with Mars Hill today was a good thing for us. Mars Hill is traditionally a very good team, so that was a very good win for us today,” said McDonald.

The Crusaders will be back home on Monday at 2 and 4 p.m. for a double-header with Southern Wesleyan University.
