NGU Posts Season-High Thirty Shots in Draw with King

Tigerville, SC – The North Greenville Trailblazers generated a season-high 30 shots but were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against King University Wednesday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.

North Greenville moved to 2-5-2 overall and 2-2-2 in Conference Carolinas play, while King moved to 2-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the conference.

The Trailblazers recorded 12 shots during the opening half while limiting King to seven. Ana Maria Pinzon produced NGU's first shot on goal in the eighth minute, while North Greenville continued to create opportunities as the half progressed. NGU finally broke through just over two minutes before halftime. Brookelynn Vanderkallen found the back of the net at 42:43 off an assist from Isabella Gyurich, giving the Trailblazers a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Vanderkallen's first of the season.

North Greenville carried the one-goal lead into halftime after finishing the opening 45 minutes with a 12-7 advantage in shots.

The Trailblazers increased the pressure after the break. NGU fired 18 shots during the second half and generated four corner kicks, but King goalkeeper Susan Schaaf kept the Tornado within striking distance.

King eventually capitalized in the 77th minute. Mia Van Groningen Dack set up Ella Froehlich, who scored her third goal of the season at 76:52 to even the match at 1-1.

North Greenville continued searching for the go-ahead goal over the final 13 minutes but was unable to break through again, leaving the Trailblazers with their second draw of the season.

Christabel Kirkham led North Greenville with seven shots, while Pinzon recorded five attempts and put three on goal. Samanta Garcia added four shots, while Kendyll Donnellon finished with three.

NGU will return to action on Saturday, October 3rd against the Valkyries of Converse University in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
