NGU Completes Sweep of Converse

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers were able to get back on track with a sweep of the Converse Valkyries with a game one final score of 13-5 and a game two score of 3-2 at Jan McDonald Field. NGU struck early to begin the day, responding to a one-run inning by Converse with six runs in the bottom of the 1st including two-RBI singles by Maddie Stone and Emily Blackwell. The Trailblazers extended the lead in the bottom of the 2nd with three more runs. After the Valkyries responded with two runs in the top of the 3rd, the Trailblazers opened up the lead further with a run in the 3rd and three runs in the 4th including a two-RBI triple by Lexie Metcalf. Converse would end the game with some momentum with two runs in the 5th, but Owyen Lyall would go on to post the final out, ending the game early due to the run rule. Haylee Whitesides was the winning pitcher. Runs would come at a premium in game two. NGU struck first in the bottom of the 1st with an RBI by Ansley Fowler. After the Valkyries tied the game in the top of the 4th, North Greenville would quickly reclaim the lead with a sacrifice fly by Haylee Whitesides in the bottom of the inning. Lexie Metcalf would extend NGU's lead in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI single by Lexie Metcalf. Converse would cut the deficit down to one with a run in the top of the 7th, but Karley Green would finish for the complete game to secure the victory.

Lexie Metcalf put together a solid performance, going 6 for 7 at the plate with a triple as well as 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Emily Blackwell recorded 4 hits, 3 RBIs, 2 runs, and a walk. Karley Green pitched 7.0 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4.

NGU will take on the Emmanuel Lions at Jan McDonald Field tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
