Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers clinched their opening conference series with a doubleheader split this afternoon at Ray & Bea Dillard Field, ending game one with a 5-1 victory and dropping game two with a score of 11-5 against the Tornado of King University. King claimed the lead to open up the afternoon with a run in the 1st inning. However,
Josh Foulks would bring in a run with an RBI single to tie the game in the 3rd inning. A three-run 4th inning by the Trailblazers was the result of a three-run shot by
Connor McKee to give North Greenville its first lead of the game. Foulks would extend the lead with a solo home run in the 5th inning. Pitching would keep the Tornado at bay, holding them scoreless after the 1st inning.
Bennett Roemer pitched 6.0 strong innings and took the win while
Connor Brinson pitched a shutout inning to end the game.
Brady Price took the mound for game two, but ran into trouble in the 2nd inning when King put six runs on the board. The Tornado would extend the lead further with a three-run home run in the 4th inning. NGU would get on the board in the 5th with an RBI single by Foulks and an RBI double by
CJ Dean. However, King would get the runs back with a two-run shot in the 6th inning. North Greenville put up a fight late in the game with an RBI single by
Kai Tullos and a two-RBI single by
Thomas Powell, but it would not be enough as the Tornado ended the afternoon with the win.
Brady Price was charged with the loss.
Josh Foulks finished the day with 3 hits including a home run as well as 3 RBIs and 2 runs.
Connor McKee recorded 3 hits including a home run in addition to 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
Bennett Roemer pitched 6.0 solid innings, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and a walk while striking out 6.
NGU will return to action on Friday, February 20th against the Erskine Flying Fleet in Due West, South Carolina.
