Tigerville – North Greenville was eliminated from the post season on Friday afternoon with an 11 – 10 loss to Wingate University.
The Crusaders took an early lead when
David Lewis launched his 24
th homer of the season in the first inning. The Bulldogs responded with four runs in the home half of the inning to take a 4 – 1 lead. From there the Bulldogs piled on four more runs while holding North Greenville scoreless for five consecutive frames.
North Greenville's biggest inning of the post season came in the seventh when the Crusaders scored six runs.
Thomas Powell scored on a passed ball while
Pat Monteith launched a grand slam to make it 8 – 6. Two batters later,
Kaleb Hall pulled NGU to within one with a solo homer.
The Crusaders threatened in each of the final two frames and were able to scratch across three more runs. The Bulldogs however took advantage of some miscues and answered with runs of their own. Wingate scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and another in the eighth to keep North Greenville at bay. The Crusaders tacked on a pair of runs in the eighth and had the game tying run 90 – feet away in the top of the 9
th but were unable to take advantage.
Bryce Roddey led North Greenville with wo hits in four appearances. He finished with a run scored. Monteith was 1 – 3 with a run scored and a team high four RBI.
Jax Cash was 1 – 3 with two RBI and a run.
Friday's loss ushers out one of the most decorated senior classes in NGU baseball history, finishing with 179 – total wins. The group won four conference regular season championships and two Conference Carolinas Tournament Champions as well as the 2022 National Championship.
