The North Greenville Crusaders split a doubleheader in Milledgeville, Georgia this afternoon with a game one score of 9-1 in favor of the Bobcats and a game two final score of 11-5 in favor of NGU. North Greenville took an early lead in the 1st inning of game one as
Virginia Bishop brough in a run with an RBI double. However, that would prove to be NGU's only run of the game as Georgia College & State would score at least one run in every inning of the game, eventually going on to end the game in five innings due to the run rule.
Sydney Clark took the loss. Game two would be a different story as the Crusaders would score in all but one inning. Both teams would get the game going with a run in the 1st, with NGU's being the result of a throwing error.
Emily Dawson would put the Crusaders in front in the 3rd inning with a three-run home run.
Karley Green added to the lead in the 4th with a two-run home run. The Bobcats responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning before an RBI single by
Ali Hartin increased the NGU lead back to four. GCSU scored twice in the 5th as well to cut the deficit to two. From there, North Greenville would take over for the remainder of the game as an RBI single by
Emily Dawson, an RBI double by Lexi Gunter, and a two-run home run by
Virginia Bishop closed out the scoring.
Karley Green was the winning pitcher.
Emily Dawson had a day to remember, going 5 for 6 at the plate including a home run with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Ansley Fowler also had an impressive day with 4 hits and a run scored.
Karley Green recorded her 18th win of the season, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6.
NGU will return to action on Friday, April 12th in Franklin Springs, Georgia against the Emmanuel Lions.
