NGU Rallies in Late Innings to Defeat Young Harris

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders began the big conference series against the 9th ranked Mountain Lions of Young Harris College with a come-from-behind 6-5 victory this afternoon at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. YHC by as much as five before NGU answered back with five unanswered runs late in the game. Jake Monroe took the start for the Crusaders on the mound. After two scoreless innings to begin things, Young Harris was able to get on the board with a three-run home run. Kaleb Hall put NGU on the board as well in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single up the middle. Pitching handled the two lineups in the middle innings, but YHC was able to add two runs to their lead in the top of the 7th. However, NGU responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning when Kaleb Hall hit a two-run home run to left field. Then in the 8th inning, after an RBI single by Bryce Roddey, Brett Blomquist tied things up with an RBI sacrifice bunt. David Lewis was then able to put North Greenville in front for the first time in the game with an RBI single through the left side. Nate Roof closed things out with a shutout 9th inning to earn the save and preserve the win for the Crusaders. Caleb Cox was the winning pitcher.

Kaleb Hall posted 3 hits including a home run and recorded 3 RBIs and a run scored. Bryce Roddey also collected 3 hits including a double as well as an RBI and a run scored. David Lewis posted 2 hits, a run scored, and the winning RBI.

The series will continue tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
