North Greenville and Young Harris split a conference series doubleheader this afternoon in Young Harris, Georgia with NGU taking the first game with a score of 5-2 and YHC responded with a walk-off 7-6 win in game two. The Lions began the afternoon with a run in the 1st and another run in the 3rd, but the North Greenville bats would come to life in the 7th inning as five runs would come in to score with a two-run home run by
Lexie Gunter and a three-run home run by
Karley Green. Green also pitched the final 6.0 innings of the game and earned the win. The Crusaders led game two in the 3rd and 4th innings, but Young Harris would tie things up with a run in the 4th and two runs in the 5th. NGU reclaimed the lead in the top of the 6th when a two-run double by
Emily Blackwell, but YHC would respond in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own to take the lead back.
Lexie Gunter tie the game in the 7th with an RBI single. However, an RBI single in the bottom of the 7th resulted in a walk-off victory for Young Harris.
Sydney Clark was charged with the loss.
Emily Blackwell posted 4 hits, 2 in each game along with 2 RBIs and a run scored.
Lexie Gunter also recorded 4 hits as well as 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
Karley Green finished with 2 hits including a home run, 4 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. She also pitched a total of 7.0 innings.
NGU will return to action on Friday, March 22nd against the Flying Fleet of Erskine College.
