Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders completed a sweep of the Anderson Trojans in the first home series of the season with final scores of 4-1 and 6-5 at Jan McDonald Field. NGU put together a strong day at the plate, combining for eighteen hits while pitching allowed just eleven hits for the Trojans.
Game one began with three scoreless innings. However, NGU would get into the run column in the bottom of the 4th when
Callie Trapp drove in a run with an RBI single to right center.
Emily Blackwell would add to the lead with an RBI single of her own through the right side.
Virginia Bishop would also add to the lead with an two-RBI single down the left field line to extend the lead to four. Anderson was able to get a run on the board in the top of the 6th, but starting pitcher
Karley Green would close things out for a complete game and the win.
Game two began with an early lead by the Trojans as a fielder's choice brought in the first run of the game.
Karley Green would tie things up with an RBI triple down the left field line and would later score on a wild pitch, but AU responded in the top of the 4th with four runs to take a 5-2 lead. After a scoreless 5th,
Amber Hughes would get North Greenville back into the game with a two-run home run.
Ansley Fowler. The tying run would also make it home as a fielding error allowed
Emily Dawson to score. Extra innings would ultimately be required, but
Maddie Stone would hit a sacrifice bunt that resulted in a throwing error, allowing
Emily Dawson to come home for the walk-off.
Karley Green collected 2 wins for the day. She pitched a total of 9.0 innings, allowing just 1 earned run off 4 hits and 5 walks while striking out 6.
Emily Blackwell posted 5 hits including a triple along with a run scored and an RBI.
Virginia Bishop finished with 3 hits including a double, 2 walks, and 2 RBIs.
NGU will return to action on Wednesday, February 7th in against the Wolves of Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina.
