The North Greenville Crusaders fell twice to the Saints of Limestone University this afternoon in Gaffney, South Carolina with final scores of 9-1 and 12-4. NGU fell behind early in game one as Limestone would get four runs on the board in the 1st inning. North Greenville responded with a run in the top of the 2nd by way of an RBI single up the middle by
Emily Dawson. From there, the Saints would pull away with two runs in the 3rd and three runs in the 5th to force the run rule and end the game early.
Karley Green, who pitched the first 4.2 innings, was charged with the loss. NGU took an early lead two begin game two when
Ansley Fowler knocked in
Ali Hartin with a sacrifice fly to left field. However, LU quickly responded with a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning. After scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings, the Crusaders were able to reclaim the lead with a three-run home run by
Emily Dawson. North Greenville would hold on to the lead until the 5th when Limestone knocked in two runs by way of a two-RBI single. Things would then get out of hand in the 6th inning as Limestone would score seven runs to once again force the game to end early due to the run rule.
Sydney Clark was charged with the loss.
Emily Blackwell ended her day with 3 hits.
Emily Dawson hit NGU's only home run of the day while
Ali Hartin hit North Greenville's other extra-base hit of the day, a double.
NGU will return to action on Saturday, March 2nd against the Tigers of Benedict College at Jan McDonald Field.
