Tigerville, SC - North Greenville clinched a weekend series against the Eagles of Post University by taking both games in the Friday doubleheader, starting with a 12-11 victory in game one and an 8-1 win in game two. The series win improves the 2nd ranked NGU's overall record to 8-1 for the young season.
Game one began with a quick two run lead by NGU that included an RBI triple by Zack Cowart. Post got on the board with a run in the top of the 3rd. Things would remain the same until the middle innings, where NGU seemingly pulled away for good with a run in the 5th by way of a home run by
David Lewis, two runs in the 6th, and five runs in the 7th including another home run by
David Lewis. The Eagles put up a fight in the top of the 8th with a three run inning. However, the Crusaders responded with another two runs in the bottom of the inning including a home run by
Pat Monteith. It seemed that the 9th would go by without threatening the NGU lead. However, the Eagles would not only score seven runs in the inning, but they would also get the tying run at third base.
Nate Roof would come in to record the final out to narrowly secure the win for the Crusaders.
Reece Fields was the winning pitcher.
The Crusaders nearly completed a combined no-hitter in game two. After two scoreless innings to get things started, NGU would get on the run column in the bottom of the 3rd with a four run inning. Three additional runs would score in the 4th including a two-RBI double by
Jake Sears and an RBI triple by
Brett Blomquist. Post's one and only hit would come in the 8th inning by way of a double. Both teams would end up scoring a run in the inning.
Jake Monroe, who threw 5.0 scoreless as well as hitless innings, was the winning pitcher.
Zack Cowart finished the day with 5 hits including a triple. He went onto score 2 runs and recorded an RBI.
Jake Monroe notched his second win of the season, pitching 5.0 hitless innings with just 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.
David Lewis posted 3 hits with two of them home runs for a total of 3 runs and 3 RBIs.
The series will conclude tomorrow with a nine inning game beginning at 1:30 PM.
