Women’s Basketball Announces 2023-24 Additions

NGU Women's Basketball

The North Greenville women's basketball program is adding three pieces to its back & front court with the signing of Maliyiah Mason, Geassy Germano, and Amaijah Smith to a National Letter of Intent, as announced by head coach Kelvin Long, Jr. on Thursday.

Maliyiah Mason, a 6-foot-0 forward from Columbia, SC., will join the Ville in the Fall of 2023.

"We are ecstatic about Maliyiah's ability and to get a player like her. She is a physical and explosive athlete who's only scratching the surface." Long Jr. said. "Liyiah has a unique skill set and has been coached well in high school, more importantly she's a winner! We are looking forward to adding that to our program."

As a senior under head coach Brandon Wallace, Mason helped a loaded Gray Collegiate Academy to the 2023 SCHL championship. For her efforts in 2023, she earned all-conference honors. Johnson was a Captain and garnered All State in 2023.

Geassy Germano, a 6-foot-1 wing from Americana, Sao Paulo, Brazil., will also join NGU in 2023-24 as a graduate transfer. In her junior campaign, Germano helped Longwood University win the Big South Tournament and earn the school's first NCAA Tournament bid.

"Geassy has great size and is multi-faceted. She's got a tremendous amount of experience in college and international play. Geassy can guard any position on the floor and offensively can get to the basket and make the right plays. She's very unique!" Long Jr. said.

Amaijah Smith, a 5-foot-3 point guard from Gulfport, Mississippi will also join NGU in 2023-24 as a junior college transfer. In the 2022-23 season at Holmes Community College, Smith averaged 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 5 assists and shot 31% from three point range.

"Amaijah is feisty! She's got big time energy and full of life. We needed to add a point guard to our locker room and she is a gym rat with a chip on her shoulder, and those are the kinds of kids we want. Smith is a coach on the floor, loves to play, loves to work, and has an attitude and demeanor that is a magnet. I'm excited to coach her" Long Jr. said.

The women's basketball program also signed 5'9 Austin Johnson from Ryle High School, and 5'11 local product Josie Workman in the Fall recruiting cycle.
