Kenya McBee Named New Assistant Coach of Women's Basketball Program

Head women's basketball Kelvin Long Jr. named Kenya McBee as the program's new assistant coach. McBee brings with her a wealth of knowledge from playing pro and coaching experience. "I am grateful for the addition of Kenya to our staff in a full time role," said Guth. "Kenya was on our staff last year as a volunteer assistant. She played at North Carolina and had tremendous success, then she played 8.5 years professionally overseas. She's got a championship mindset and will be good for our post players." - Kelvin Long

Kenya McBee is from Greenville, SC and went on to receive a full athletic scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she helped lead her team to a 108-26 record in her 4 years of play. Also a regular season conference championship and ACC conference championship in 2005. Kenya double majored in Communications and African American studies. Post graduation she went on to play professional basketball for 8.5 years overseas in countries like France, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Finland, Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece. Kenya took a break in between playing to join UNC football program as a Defensive Graduate Assistant in 06-07 and then received her first coaching job at Queens University in Charlotte in 2007. In the 2009-10 season she returned to UNC to join the women's basketball program as a video coordinator. In 2015 Kenya was named head girls varsity coach and assistant varsity boys coach at Victory Christian school in Charlotte, NC where she won regular season conference champs, conference championship and national championship for the girls and runner up national champs for the boys before becoming recruiting coordinator for Chowan Women's Basketball for the 2015-16 season after officially retiring in 2016.
