Eight Personal Records Headline First Race of 2023

Winston Salem, N.C. – Seven men's track and field athletes started the new year with new personal bests on Saturday in the first indoor event of 2023.

Terrique Webb had one of NGU's best finishes of the day in the long jump with a personal best 6.72 meters. The distance was good enough for second place in the event.

Also setting new personal high marks in field events were Bryce Hamby and Damon Worley. Both athletes reached four-meters in the pole vault. Worley finished 9th while Hamby finished 10th in the event.

On the track, Marcus Thomason finished third overall in the 60 – meter hurdles. Thomason's time of 8.54 is a new personal mark. Jacobie Sims finished fifth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.56, a new personal best for him.

Hayden Goode and Matthew Heath had solid showings in the 3,000 meter race with times of 8:57.56 and 9:39.92. Both of the times were personal bests.

Jacobie Sims, Eli Tipton, Marcus Thomason, and Gray McIntyre claimed second place in the 4x400 with a time of 3:24.79.

From Coach Stober

"The first meet after Christmas break is always interesting. Overall, I thought did well. We had some really good performances, but there are definitely some areas to improve on as well.

For the women, Tiara had an awesome day. It seems like every time she runs the 60 she either runs a PB or sets a new school record. She did both today. JoAnn opened up the season with an indoor PB in the long jump and ran well in the 200 and 4x4. Hannah Hill had a solid day running well in the 200, 400, and ran an incredible anchor leg for the 4x4.

On the men's side, I thought Hayden had a really good day. He had a breakthrough performance in the 3K and then finished the day off with a solid performance in the mile. Both of our vaulters (Damon and Bryce) cleared 4 meters and set indoor PBs. And both of our hurdlers (Marcus and Jacobie) ran PBs in the 60H.

All of our relays ran well and we were able to finish the meet on a positive note with some exciting 4x4s.

We are looking forward to getting back at it next weekend now that some of the rust from the break has been knocked off."

Up Next
A trip to Columbia on January 20th for the Carolina Challenge.
