North Greenville Eliminated After Falling to Mount Olive and King

The 2021 NGU softball season came to an unfortunate end this afternoon in Duncan, South Carolina with a 5-4 loss to the Mount Olive Trojans as well as a 10-9 loss to the King Tornado. North Greenville held a late lead in both games, but ultimately fell as the home team in both games. Only five of NGU's runs allowed were earned as seven errors contributed to ten unearned runs throughout the two games. The Crusaders finished with a 26-15 overall record. Aschlyn Hutto was strong throughout the day, recording six hits.

Recap
  • After two scoreless inning to begin game one, Mount Olive would get on the board in the top of the 3rd with three runs with only one of them earned. NGU responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single by Aschlyn Hutto and a two-RBI single by Taylor Koon to tie the game. Pitching would limit both lineups until the 8th when the Trojans took the lead with two runs scored including one off a throwing error. The Crusaders were able to get one run back, but unable to score the second. Callie Richards, who pitched 5.1 innings, was charged with the loss.
  • NGU would get on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the 1st in game two. Claire Gilmore would record an RBI in the bottom of the 2nd with a groundout. King would then strike back with four runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to take an 8-3 lead. From there, the Crusaders would chip away at the deficit, scoring two runs in the 5th and four runs in the 6th including an RBI double by Aschlyn Hutto to tie the game. The Tornado were able to reclaim the lead in the top of the 7th by way of an RBI single. North Greenville would load the bases in the bottom of the inning, but would end the game with two straight pop ups to keep the run from scoring.
