Chlup Homers Three Times, Twice in One Inning, as Crusaders Take Doubleheader Over Chowan

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville began a four game conference series against the Chowan Hawks with 8-7 and 17-0 victories at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. The Crusaders hit a total of six home runs in the doubleheader including three by Marek Chlup with two of those in one inning and two home runs by John Michael Faile. NGU improves its record to 10-3 overall and 8-2 in conference.

Recap
  • Logan Chapman took the mound for the Crusaders to start the series. In the bottom of the 1st, John Michael Faile would get NGU on the board with a two run home run to center field. Following the two-run 1st inning was a six-run 2nd including a three run homer by John Michael Faile and a two-run double by Lex Tuten. The Hawks would get on the board in the top of the 3rd with a an RBI single up the middle. After scoring two more in the bottom of the 5th by way of an RBI double and a solo home run, Chowan would put a scare into the Crusaders by scoring three more in the top of the 7th including a two run home run and an RBI triple. However, Brent Herlong, who entered the game with one out, would record the two final outs to secure the win for North Greenville. Herlong would earn the save while Logan Chapman would be the winning pitcher.
  • NGU would make quick work in the 2nd game, scoring two runs in the 1st including an RBI double by Jordan Holladay. Marek Chlup would add two more runs to the board for NGU with a two run homer to right center. The sixth proved to be the huge inning as the Crusaders would score twelve runs in the inning. Highlights of the inning include two home runs by Marek Chlup, a solo home run by Jordan Holladay, and an RBI double by John Michael Faile. The final three innings of the game went by quietly as the Crusaders would complete the shutout.

  • John Michael Faile went 5 for 8 at the plate, hitting two home runs and a double.
  • Marek Chlup posted 3 home runs for the day with two of them in one inning.
  • Reece Fields earned his 3rd win of the year, pitching 6 strong innings, giving up no runs and just three hits and a walk. He struck out seven.
