Gaffney, S.C.—The North Greenville men’s tennis team lost just its second conference match of the season on Wednesday as the Crusaders were dismissed by #38 Limestone College 6-3 in Gaffney, South Carolina. 

The Saints grabbed a quick upper hand in doubles competition winning the first game of the day with a 9-8 win over NGU’s Jose Gomez and Rafael Lenz. Sergio Araujo Filho and Santiago Robles would even the tally at 1-1 with NGU’s first win, an 8-5 decision over Limestone’s Guinski and Soars. The Crusaders would then gain a 2-1 lead after Sjors van Eck and Marcelo Yshikawa earned an 8-5 doubles win.

Sjors van Eck would later add NGU’s only singles win 6-3/2-6/6-2 win over Daniel Lopez. The Crusaders finish the day 1-6 in singles play. Santiago Robles would come the closest to adding a second singles win for the Crusaders but would fall in three sets to Giacomo Campus 3-6/7-6/6-7. Jose Gomez and Rafael Lenz would fall in their singles frames 6-2/6-2 and 6-4/6-2 while Juan Vargas fell 6-1/6-0. Sergio Araujo Filho dropped a 7-6/6-4 decision.

The Crusaders fell to 4-8 overall, and 3-2 in league play. North Greenville will travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina on Friday to take on Winthrop University, followed by a trip to Jefferson City, Tennessee to play Carson Newman College.
