Greenwood, S.C. -After a six day hiatus the North Greenville Men’s soccer team returned to action against the Lander University Bearcats in Greenwood, S.C. The last time on the field the Crusaders evened their 2009 record and 2-2 and looked to use Wednesday’s game to push past the .500 mark on the season.  

The Crusaders are 1-3 on the road so far in the young 2009 season and the game at Lander would be yet another test.

The Crusaders faced an uphill task after Lander Scored an early goal in the 10th minute. The Crusaders Seth Snyder would be quick to tie the match in 17th minute after scoring off of an errant pass from the Bearcats goalkeeper. Lander took a 3-1 lead 5 minutes into the second. The score remained 3-1 until Manuel Izquierdo brought the Crusaders one goal closer scoring on a shot from 40 yards out.

Down 3-2, Izquierdo had a chance to tie the game with a free kick that missed by inches. The score remained 3-2 until the 8 minute mark until Lander sealed the victory with two mores goals in the 82nd and 84th minutes. “We played hard tonight” said head coach Chad Gfeller, “I was proud that the guys kept fighting and like every loss we will learn from this and it will make us better.” The Crusaders next game will be a home match against Southern Wesleyan University at 7pm.
