Tigerville - North Greenville Men's Lacrosse is becoming a familiar name in the Conference Carolinas playoff brackets as 2019 will be the third consecutive season the Crusaders have made a postseason appearance.
The Crusaders locked up a playoff spot earlier in the season but solidified a top-four seed last weekend when they knocked off Barton College, ensuring an opening round home game for the third time in program history. North Greenville's first playoff game was also the first postseason home game when Pfeiffer came to Tigerville in 2017. Chowan was the home opponent in the 2018 quarterfinals at Pepsi Stadium. NGU enters the Tuesday re-match with Barton as the favorite and looks to make it 3-0 in home playoff matches.
The Bulldogs will make the trek to Tigerville for the second time since Saturday, having fallen to NGU 18-8 in the final regular season tune-up for each school. The first-year program out of Wilson, North Carolina took its bumps, finishing the 2019 season with an overall mark of 5-11 and a league mark of 3-4. The Bulldogs were just 1-5 on the road this season, with one of those losses at the hands of the Crusaders.
North Greenville enters the 2019 post-season riding the momentum of a five-game win streak, a stretch which helped NGU lock-up another trip to the postseason. The turnaround for North Greenville started in late March. The Crusaders were just 2-8 heading into a showdown with Mars Hill. A dominating 23-5 win over the South Atlantic Conference foe seemed to spark NGU's offensive fire. The Crusaders averaged 21.2 scores down the back-stretch while setting the program's record for goals in a game with 24 against Emmanuel in early April.
Tuesday's game with Barton starts a new season for the Crusaders who look to be part of the league's final-four this coming weekend. The winner's of the quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon will make the trip to Mount Olive, North Carolina to play in the semi-finals with a trip the championship game on the line.
