The North Greenville Crusaders fell just short against the Lynn University Fighting Knights in overtime with a final score of 12-11. NGU led 11-8 with with 7:44 remaining in the game, but the Fighting Knights would make a comeback to force overtime where they would eventually score the game-winning goal. With a spread out attack, Alex Proly led in goals for the Crusaders with two.
1st Quarter (4-2 NGU)
North Greenville quickly got to work with a goal just 25 seconds into the game with a goal by Corey Long. Over the next six minutes, Lynn worked to score two goals to lead by a point. However, the Crusaders would own the rest of the quarter with three unanswered goals, which were scored by Chris Carpenter, Fletcher Steveson, and Brendan Sullivan.
2nd Quarter (6-6 Tied)
After a slow start to the quarter, the Fighting Knights would tie the game by scoring the first two goals. With just under ten minutes remaining in the half, Thomas Cecere would get NGU the lead back with a goal to make the score 5-4. Lynn would again score two goals in a row to lead by one. North Greenville would end the quarter with a last-second goal by Derrick Shealy to tie the game at the half.
3rd Quarter (8-7 NGU)
LU would reclaim the lead early in the quarter with an early goal. In a defensive third quarter, the Crusaders scored two goals in a row to end the quarter by Austin Dixon and Alex Proly.
4th Quarter (11-11 Tied)
Early in the quarter, Lynn would tie the game yet again with a goal just over a minute into the quarter. North Greenville would then go on a big run with three goals by Kyle Hunziker, Alex Proly, and Matt Somjak. The Crusaders were in good position, but the Fighting Knights would come back to tie the game over the final six minutes with three straight goals to force overtime with the score 11-11.
Overtime (12-11 LU)
LU won the faceoff and quickly called a timeout. Just over a minute into the overtime period, Lynn would score the game-winning goal.
Alex Proly scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists. Both of those stats led the team.
Austin Dixon recorded a goal and 5 total shots with 4 on goal.
Kyle Hunziker connected for a goal and put up 5 total shots with 2 on goal.
North Greenville returns to action on Saturday, March 16th against the Mount Olive Trojans in Mount Olive, North Carolina.
