Crusaders achieve program first with win over Alabama Huntsville

Huntsville, AL—North Greenville men’s lacrosse achieved another program first on Saturday, opening the season with a 16-9 win over Alabama Huntsville.

The Crusaders are now 1-0 for the first time in the brief program history. Austin Dixon and Jake Foster led the charge on Saturday with five goals each. Dixon added two assists and four groundballs to his line while Foster had an assist and four groundballs of his own.

North Greenville broke a 1-1 tie early in the game with consecutive goals in just over one minute. Logan Bryant and Jake Foster gave the Crusaders a 3-1 lead, an advantage that the team would never relinquish. The goal from Foster was his second of the quarter.

The Crusaders would go on to score five unanswered times to extend the advantage to 8-1. Austin Dixon scored twice during the run while Foster added his third of the day. North Greenville would carry the seven-point advantage into halftime.

North Greenville weathered an early run in the second half from Huntsville that whittled the NGU lead to just three points. The Crusaders were outscored 6-4 in the third frame but held the Chargers in check to carry a 12-7 lead into the final period.

North Greenville added four more goals in the final 15-minutes of play. Dixon would tack on two more goals while Foster added his final. Hayden Ruckhaber would also get in on the action in the final minutes with his goal on an assist from Marcus Olson.

North Greenville will look to move to 2-0 next week against Queens University with a 1pm faceoff.
