Men's golf bounces back to finish fifth

Anderson, S.C. – Looking to come from a first round where the players combined to finish sixth, the Crusaders were looking to make a push for the team title in the Anderson University Invitational.

In the team competition, Tusculum College defeated Pfeiffer University in a playoff to win the tournament. In the individual standings, Eric Kennedy of Lincoln Memorial University won with a two-day total of 139.

“The guys played solid and gelled well together,” said head coach Jeff Pittillo. “Hopefully it is a sign of things to come in the future.”

Seniors Richard Smith and Andrew Beck each had outstanding days carding even-par 71s. Smith made a push for the individual title and finished tied for 12th with Danny Dippel with a two-day total of 149, only 10 shots off of the lead. Beck finished close behind tied for 17th with a total score of 150 while Josh O’Neal shot 77-76 to finish the tournament tied for 27th with a total score of 153.

“Our seniors stepped up and played great today,” said Pittillo.

The Crusaders will be on the course again Sept. 20-21 as they host the NGU Fall Classic at Cherokee Valley Golf Course in Tigerville.
