North Greenville placed 8th overall out of nineteen teams in the Wingate Bulldog Stampede in Wingate, North Carolina. The Regional Preview featured four Conference Carolinas programs with one of those programs winning the event.
Head Coach Cameron Stober was proud of the student-athletes for their performances in the event. "For the men, Vic ran great. Big PR and a top 20 finish among this field of athletes is impressive. Jacob Holcombe had a HUGE day. Excited to see things coming together for him. Tommy was only 13 seconds off a lifetime PR this early in the season. I thought he ran a good race as well. As usual, Amir showed a lot of toughness. He stepped up despite a nagging injury and ran number five for us. Freshman, Samuel Flook, saw the fruit of his labor today running a PR in his second ever collegiate race.
To have a top 10 team finish on both sides despite some of the injuries that we've been battling is exciting. These men and women have worked really hard, and it's always rewarding to see it pay off on race day. We are going to continue to work hard and do our best to get/stay healthy. I'm very proud of our performance today, and I'm excited to see what the rest of the season has in store."
Victor Shellhammer grabbed the 20th overall spot, finishing with a lifetime personal record time of 27:13.3. He was the top Crusader to finish in both meets this season.
Jacob Holcombe finished not far behind with a lifetime personal record time of 27:31.1 for 27th place overall.
Tommy Pearson was the next NGU athlete to finish, placing 58th with a time of 29:01.3. Pearson's 3rd place finish among NGU participants is his career best.
