Big Innings Lead to One Sided Victory Over Barton

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders entered conference play with a bang, beating the Barton College Bulldogs 16-1 on a rainy day in Tigerville. NGU scored in just three innings, but those innings proved to be highly productive with two runs in the 1st, nine runs in the 4th, and five runs in the 5th. Utah Jones led NGU in hits with three while Adam Sasser led in RBIs with five.

Innings 1-3 (2-0 NGU)

Started Tucker Burgess began the game with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 1st. After Jeremy Whitehead and Jared Williams started the bottom of the inning with bunt singles, a wild pitch allowed Whitehead to score to put the Crusaders on the board. Williams would come in to score as well on a sacrifice fly by Adam Sasser. In the top of the 2nd, the first two Barton batter reached base, but the next three in the lineup were retired to end the threat. NGU went three up, three down in the bottom of the inning. Once again, two would reach base for the Bulldogs in the top of the 3rd, but would go ultimately go quiet with no runs scored. The Crusaders ended up going three up, three down after Whitehead reached base but was picked off.

Innings 4-6 (16-0 NGU)

BC was able to get two runners on base for the third straight inning, but again would not score a run. A huge bottom of the 4th resulted in nine runs for the Crusaders including home runs by John Michael Faile, Josh Senter, and Sasser who also doubled earlier in the inning. The top of the 5th was more of the same, two runners left on base for Barton. North Greenville added to the lead with five runs in the bottom of the 5th on an RBI double by Senter, an RBI single by Williams, and a bases-clearing double by Utah Jones. Daniel Kight relieved Burgess in the 6th inning. The Bulldogs continued to struggle with runners in scoring position in the top of the inning, leaving the bases loaded and not scoring a run. Sean Parson and Elvin Rosa led off the inning with singles, but the next three batters were retired. 

Innings 7-9 (16-1 NGU)

Matthew Dailey pitched the 7th inning. The Bulldogs drew a walk, but would otherwise go quiet. NGU would leave a runner on base as well in the bottom of the inning. With Caleb Murphy pitching for North Greenville in the 8th, both teams would go three up, three down in the inning. Nate Roof entered the game to pitch for the Crusaders. BC loaded the bases before a wild pitch allowed Barton to score a run for the first time in the game. Afterwards, the final out was recorded to give North Greenville the win.


Adam Sasser put together quite a performance with a home run, a double, and a sacrifice fly to total 5 RBIs.

Utah Jones led the team with 3 hits, which were all doubles. He also recorded 3 RBIs.

Josh Senter went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs and a home run.


Weather permitting, the series will continue tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon.
