TIGERVILLE, SC -- Erskine College opened the weekend series against North Greenville with a win Friday afternoon on Ashmore Field. The Flying Fleet won the game 11-2, improving their overall record to 5-0, while the Crusaders fall to 1-4.
The Crusaders opened up the scoring in the third against Erskine starter Chachere Freeman behind the bats of Dayton Lupton, Josh Hohn, and Cory Hinton. Lupton led off the inning, reaching on an error by the Flying Fleet shortstop Pearson. He advanced to second on the walk issued to Hohn. Later on, Lupton and Hohn both scored on Hinton's single. The inning ended with Curt Marshall's flyout to center field.
The Fleet struck back in the top of the fourth against North Greenville starter Chad Drosieko. Erskine loaded the bases with two outs, but cleared them as Chas Anthony reached on an error driving in three runs. Matt Schneider followed with a single, scoring Anthony, giving Erskine a 4-2 lead they never relinquished.
In the fifth, Erskine added some insurance as Greg Huff doubled in two runs and Bryan Fogle drove in another on a sacrifice fly.
The Fleet pulled away for good in the last two innings, scoring three runs in the 8th, and one more in the 9th.
For the game Chas Anthony drove in three runs, while Keith Hill had two hits and two RBI. Greg Huff also chipped in two hits and an RBI.
The Crusaders were led by Cory Hinton who had two hits and two RBI.
The Crusaders and Fleet are back in action Saturday, February 9th at noon for a doubleheader.
