Tigerville, SC - North Greenville put up a solid fight, but ultimately fell to the Saints of Flagler College with a final score of 3-2 in a thrilling five set match. The Crusaders had to play catch up for the majority of the match, coming from behind twice before dropping set five to allow Flagler to escape with the victory. Abigail Durham led NGU in kills with 11 as well as total attacks with 37.
The first sets of the match began closely contested, with the score being tied eight times. Tied at 13-13, Flagler began to pull away witha 5-1 run. North Greenville pulled back to within three, but the Saints went on to win the opening set 25-20.
Set two was once again closely contested as the set would include six ties. However, that would change when an 8-1 run by the Crusaders put the set out of reach for FC. NGU would go on to take the set rather easily with a score of 25-17.
Flagler was able to get off to a quick start in set three, starting things off with a 5-2 lead. Just like set one, the third set would go on to feature eight ties. Tied 21-21, the Saints would close out the set with a 4-1 run to win it 25-22.
FC again got off to a fast start with a quick 5-2 lead. From there, the Crusaders would put together the best run of the match, a 13-3 run to give North Greenville a commanding 15-8 lead. However, momentum would then turn to the Saints, who were able to string together six straight points to pull within one. The remainder of the set went back and forth, with the Crusaders able to hang on to ultimately win it 25-22 to force a fifth set.
A competitive set five began with neither team able to pull away from another. NGU led 9-8, but a crushing four-point run by Flagler proved to be too much to come back from. The Saints would score the final two points to win the set 15-11 and end the match to get out of Tigerville with the match win.
North Greenville will take a short trip to Greenville to face the Bob Jones Bruins tomorrow with a start time of noon.
