The North Greenville Crusaders wrapped up their weekend at the LaGrange Tournament in LaGrange, Georgia with a win over Division II opponent Albany State University and an exhibition win over Lawson State Community College. NGU was perfect for the tournament, posting a 4-0 record and dropping just one set over the weekend.
Set one of the first match of the day began with a 6-4 lead by the Crusaders before the Golden Rams fought back with a 5-2 run to take go ahead. Trailing 12-11, NGU would storm ahead with a 13-5 run. Eventually North Greenville scored the final point to take the first set 25-21.
The Crusaders were able to jump to an early 5-2 lead to begin the second set. Albany State would get going and lead by as much as two points before NGU fought back to take back the lead and never look back, leading by as much as eight points. North Greenville would go on to win the set 25-17.
NGU pulled away quickly to begin set three, starting with an 8-1 run. However, the Golden Rams did fight back with six straight points to get back into the set. The Crusaders took over from there as Albany State was not able to get much going for the remainder of the set. NGU ended the set with a 7-4 run to take it 25-16 and end the match.
Match two of the day resulted in a 3-0 exhibition win over Lawson State Community College.
Up next for NGU is the beginning of conference play. They will take on the Chowan Hawks on Friday, September 27th in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.
