Pepper Has Solid Performance as Crusaders Victorious Over Huntingdon

North Greenville ended day one of the LaGrange Tournament with a 3-1 win over the Hawks of Huntingdon College in LaGrange, Georgia. The Crusaders won two out of three competitive sets before completely dominating the final set for the victory. Emma Pepper put together a strong performance with 11 kills and 20 total attacks for a .450 attack percentage. Katie McManaway also shined with 10 kills and led in total attacks with 33.

A competitive set one resulted in ten ties and no lead high than three points. NGU trailed 9-6 before putting together a 5-2 run to take a 13-12 lead. After the Hawks followed up with a 3-1 run, the Crusaders responded with a 7-3 run to take a 21-18 lead. Leading 23-22, a kill by Katie McManaway and an attack error allowed the Crusaders to take the set with a score of 25-22.

After an even start to set two, the Crusaders would put together a run to lead 16-9. However, a seven-point run by Huntingdon tied the set. Leading 21-20, NGU scored the final four points to win the second set with a score of 25-20.

Following another even start to the third set, the Hawks would pull away early to lead 12-5. North Greenville fought back through the remainder of the set, cutting the deficit down to two. However, Huntingdon was able to score the final point to force a fourth set with a score of 25-23.

The Hawks began the fourth set with a 5-3 lead. From there, the Crusaders would completely dominate the remainder of the set. a 22-5 run by NGU ended the set 25-10 to take the match.

North Greenville will return to action tomorrow at 11:00 AM to take on the Albany State Golden Rams at 11:00 AM.
