NGU Begins Tournament With Win Over Hawks

The North Greenville Crusaders began this weekend's tournament with a 3-0 win over the Panthers of LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia. NGU was productive at the net, posting attack percentages of over .300 in two of the three sets. Kelli Davis led in kills with 7 and total attacks with 17.

North Greenville could not have asked for a better start to begin the match, dominating the set with a 20-4 lead that included a 9-0 run. LaGrange did put together a 7-1 run, but a service error put an end to the set with the Crusaders taking it 25-13.

Set 2 was a bit more competitive out of the gate. Tied at 3-3, NGU then went on a 9-3 run to lead 12-6. After the Panthers cut their deficit to two points, North Greenville put the set out of reach with a 9-2 run and would eventually win the set with a final score of 25-15.

Momentum swings defined the final set, with the Crusaders starting with a 6-1 lead and LaGrange responding with a 3-0 run. From there, NGU would pull away again by going on a 5-1 run before LC fought back with a 4-1 run to make the score 12-9 in favor of North Greenville. Tied at 18-18, the Crusaders went on to score 7 of the final 9 points to win the set 25-20 and take the match.
