North Greenville takes down Mount Olive in straight sets

Tigerville, S.C. – Both Brittany Tepedino and Kenzie Pierce finished with double-digit kills while NGU hit .302 as a team in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-18) win over Mount Olive, Friday night in Hayes Gymnasium.

Pierce led all players with 12-kills while Tepedio knocked down eight. Madison Pogue dished out 33-assists and added a team high 12-digs while Even Little finished the night with 10-digs. Pogue also led the Crusaders with two services. The Crusaders finished with five as a team.

The Crusaders saw little resistance from the Trojans in the first two sets who never led, and trailed by as many as 12-points. Mount Olive was even with NGU early in the second set but North Greenville quickly pulled ahead, eventually taking a 19-10 lead. The Trojans would score just two more points in the second frame as the Crusaders finished off the visitors with a 4-0 run, headlined by three consecutive kills from Pierce.

Mount Olive came out firing in the third frame though, taking its first lead of the night at 5-4. The Crusaders would trail again at 6-5, but began to gain footing, eventually gaining a 15-9 edge. The Trojans would keep it close in the end, cutting NGU’s once six point lead to just three (20-17) but the Crusaders proved too strong in the end, taking five of the next six points to take the Conference Carolinas victory.

NGU improved to 18-11 over all and 7-8 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders will wrap up the 2016 regular season on Saturday with a 1pm match vs. Barton College. Coach Mosely and the team will honor the 2016 senior class before Saturday’s match.
