Crusaders sweep Saturday double-header

Tigerville, S.C. - In their first game of the day, The North Greenville Crusaders took down the Emmanuel College Lions in four sets (W 25-22, W 25-22, L 25-22, W 25-20) to improve to 15-8 (5-5 CC) on the season.

Game one between North Greenville began tightly competitive with both sides not wanting to give an inch until NGU’s Brittany Tepedino put up three kills to set up a 14-10 lead over the Lions. Emmanuel would quickly battle back to cut the Crusader lead to one but NGU would not give up the lead. 

North Greenville would go on to take a 24-19 lead over Emmanuel but the lions refused to go down and rallied to cut the crusader lead to two. A service error from Erica Burnham would give the Crusaders game one with a final score of 25-22.

Game two between North Greenville and Emmanuel began close but the Crusaders quickly separated themselves from the Lions by taking a 10-6 lead. Several attacking errors by the Crusaders would help the Lions to come back and tie the game at 10. After being tied at 11 North Greenville would go on to take a 19-15 lead over Emmanuel. EC would battle back and the NGU lead to one but the Crusaders would go on a four point run capped off by a kill from Brittany Tepedino to take game two 25-22.

Emmanuel would start off strong with the match on the line taking a 7-2 lead over North Greenville at the start of game three. Emmanuel would continue to control game three taking an 18-11 lead over the Crusaders when NGU found some momentum and cut the lead to two. With Emmanuel taking a 24-20 lead over North Greenville the Crusaders would try to comeback but would ultimately come up short as the Lions took game three 25-22.

Crusaders determined to end the match started off trading point for point until NGU took advantage of Emmanuel’s attacking errors to go up 11-8. North Greenville would not allow Emmanuel to gain any momentum, as they would go on to win 25-20 and take the match.

Kenzie Pierce and Brittany Tepedino would both finish the match with 14 kills. Madison Pogue would find no issue moving the ball around as she finished the first game of the day with 42 assists. Eve Little and Kenzie Pierce would combine for 31 of the 61 total digs for the Crusaders.

NGU vs. Clark Atlanta College

North Greenville started off fast in game one against Clark Atlanta College taking a 15-6 lead with the help of four attacking errors and a bad set as well as a string of kills from Kenzie Pierce and Brittany Tepedino. The Crusaders would ease into a win in game one 25-11. The Crusaders would finish the first game with a .481 hit percentage.

Brittany Tepedino would lead the Crusaders in kills with 5 and Madison Pogue would finish the first game with 14 assists.

Game two started off close until North Greenville found momentum and took a 10-6 lead with the help of several errors by Clark Atlanta as well as several kills from Kenzie Pierce and Samantha Hebb after being tied at five. After being down 12-7, the Panthers cut the Crusader lead to two. The Crusaders would maintain control of the game and go on to win 25-18 and take a 2-0 lead on the match.

Kenzie Pierce would lead the Crusaders in kills in game two with 5 and Madison Pogue would finish the game with 13 assists.

North Greenville would begin game three quick offensively by taking a 7-2 lead over the Panthers with four straight Aces from North Greenville’s Madison Pogue. Clark Atlanta tried to find some momentum but the Crusaders had an answer every time the Panthers scored. The Crusaders went on to take a 23-16 lead over Clark Atlanta when the Panthers started to come back scoring five points to cut the Crusader lead to two. The Panther come back bid would come up short as North Greenville would go on to win 25-22.

Kenzie Pierce would lead North Greenville in Kills with 11 on the night. Madison Pogue would dish out 41 assists out of the NGU total of 43. Kenzie Pierce finished the Game with a .611 hit percentage.

North Greenville will travel to Spartanburg on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 to take on the Converse College Valkyries.
