Tigerville, S.C. - The North Greenville Crusaders lost at home to the Erskine College Flying Fleet 3-1 on Friday (W 25-21, L 25-15, L 25-17, L 25-21). They are now 14-8 on the season (4-5 CC).
Erskine started off game one strong taking an 8-3 lead while taking advantage of the three Crusader errors. A kill from Brittany Tepedino would give North Greenville would give the Crusaders enough momentum to comeback and take a 17-16 lead over Erskine.
The Crusaders would outscore the Flying Fleet 10-2 and take a 22-17 lead. EC would go on a three-point run to cut the NGU lead to two points. The Crusaders would go on to win game one 25-21 off of an attacking error from Erskine’s Marissa Mayfield.
Game two started off closely competitive with both North Greenville and Erskine trading points until several kills from Erskine’s Payton Duncan and bad sets from NGU gave the Flying Fleet an 11-5 lead over the Crusaders. North Greenville would try to battle back but Erskine answered every point scored by the Crusaders. NGU wouldn’t be able to generate any momentum as Erskine took game 25-15.
The Flying Fleet would start game three quickly taking a 9-3 lead over the Crusaders. Erskine wouldn’t allow North Greenville to gain any momentum matching every point NGU scored with one of its own. Erskine would go on to win game three 25-17 taking a 2-1 lead on the match.
With the match on the line the Crusaders and the Flying Fleet began the game trading points back and forth in a highly competitive match up. With the game at tied at 15-15 there would have been six lead changes between the two teams. After taking a 21-18 lead the Flying Fleet would battle back seven points to take game four 25-21.
Brittany Tepedino would lead all Crusaders in kills with 14. Madison Pogue would dish out 37 assists on the game and Eve Little would finish the game with 16 Digs.
The Crusaders will take on Emmanuel College (1:00) and Clark Atlanta College (5:00) In Hayes Gymnasium on Saturday, October 22, 2016.
