Tigerville, S.C. - North Greenville improved to 13-5 on the season Friday night, downing the Truett McConnell Bears 3-1 (25-21, 28-26, 20-25, 27-25) in non-conference volleyball action.
The Crusaders got off to a slow start in the first set, watching the Bears jump out to 7-2 advantage but the play of Kenzie Pierce and Brittany Tepedino carried NGU to the first set win. Pierce finished the opening frame with six kills while Tepedino had five. The Crusaders evened the score at 11-11, eventually cruising to the 25-21 win.
NGU led big in the second game, jumping out to a 17-9 lead, but the bears continued to battle, evening the score at 24-24, erasing another big lead for the Crusaders who led by five and were looking at game point. North Greenville would find itself battling from behind, tying the score at 26-26 before a kill from Madison Pogue and an error from TMC gave NGU the set two win in extra points.
The Bears would cut the NGU set lead to one after winning the third set 25-20. North Greenville responded quickly to the loss in set four, jumping out tow an 18-12 lead. No lead was safe on Friday night though as the Bears began to chip away, scoring eight of the next 10 points to even the score at 20-20.
The offenses would then trade points before Truett McConnell took a 24-22 lead. The Bears would fail to force a game five though, missing on consecutive set points as NGU evened the score at 24-24. After trading points with the Bears to make the score 25-25, the Crusaders would use a Truett error and a Kenzie Pierce kill to put the game away.
