Tigerville, S.C. - North Greenville wouldn’t allow injuries to Samantha Hebb and Taylor Waters to get the best of them as they defeated the Brevard College Tornados in three games. The Crusaders improve now to 9-4 on the season.
Game one was closely competitive as both teams traded points. The Crusaders took control of the game with the help of Kenzie Pierce’s back to back kills to put them up 10-7 over the Tornados. North Greenville would go on to take an 18-13 lead when the Tornados would kill four and put up two Aces to take a 20-19 lead. Brevard would keep their momentum going to take a 24-21 lead over North Greenville when the crusaders would battle back to tie the game at 24 all. The Crusaders would take the advantage at 25 and a kill from Brittany Tepedino would give North Greenville game one. Kenzie Pierce finished game one with seven kills.
North Greenville wasted no time in game two taking a 16-5 lead over Brevard. A second game winning kill from NGU’s Brittany Tepedino would end game two with a final score of 25-11. This would put the Crusaders up 2-0 over Brevard placing the Tornados in a win or go home situation. North Greenville would finish game three with a .355 hitting percentage.
Game three began with both teams trading points until three attack errors from the Tornados would put the Crusaders up 8-4. North Greenville would not allow Brevard to cut the lead to less than three points answering every Tornado score with a score of their own until two kills and an Ace from Brevard’s Callie Chappell would spark the Tornados to go on and tie the game at 20 all. A couple of attacking errors by Brevard, and two kills from Kenzie Pierce would put the Crusaders up 24-20. The Tornados would try to battle back cutting the lead to 24-22 but a kill from Kenzie Pierce would end game three with the Crusaders coming out on top with a final score of 25-22.
Kenzie Pierce would lead the Crusaders in kills with 17. Madison Pogue would dish out 36 assists on the game. Ashlyn Wilkinson would end the game with 17 digs. Annmarie Johnston would end the game with a .615 hitting percentage.
North Greenville will travel to Banner Elk, North Carolina on Friday, September 30, 2016 to take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats.
