NORTH GREENVILLE BLANKS BARTON IN CONFERENCE BOUT

Wilson, N.C.—The North Greenville Women's Volleyball Team wrapped up an undefeated week on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Barton College.

Kenzie Pierce wrapped up her impressive week with a game high 15 kills on 22 attempts. The sophomore had just one error and finished the game with a .636 hitting percentage. Megan Gouge also had double-digit kills with 10 while hitting .444. Madison Pogue led all players with 43 assists. North Greenville came out on top of a 29-27 decision in set one. The Crusaders were up 3-0 but found themselves down 27-26 late in the set. A service error followed by kills from Sara Miller and Kenzie Pierce would even the score and give the Crusaders the two game winning points.

Barton once again put NGU in a two point hole in the second set as the Bulldogs took a 20-18 lead on a kill from Haley Mashburn. The Crusaders would respond with a five point stretch to take a 23-20 lead. A Kill from Yomi Adeyeye would give the Crusaders a 24-21 lead before the Bulldogs crept closer with an NGU error and a spike to pull to within one (24-23). The Bulldogs would falter late as their second of two errors in the frame helped NGU earn the 25-23 win.

The Crusaders would leave no doubt in the third set jumping out to a 10-5 lead. Five different players got into the action for the Crusaders led by Pierce, Adeyeye, and Miller who had two kills each. The Crusaders put together their best offensive performance of the day with 20 kills on 33 attempts while holding the Bulldogs to just 10 kills while forcing five errors. NGU prevailed in a 25-16 win to earn the 3-0 sweep over Barton, capping a four win week.

NGU improves to 10-5 on the season and 4-1 in Conference Carolinas play after this weekend. The Crusaders will return to the court on October 2nd when they host Converse College in a 7pm serve.
