Mount Olive, N.C.—The North Greenville Women's Volleyball Team opened up a weekend Conference Carolinas double-header with a 3-0 win over the University of Mount Olive, Friday night in North Carolina.

The Crusaders improved to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in league play following Friday's sweep of the Trojans. Yomi Adeyeye led NGU at the net with 10 kills while Madison Pogue finished with 25 assists. The Crusaders hit just .161 but registered 13 blocks on defense, pressuring the UMO offense into 24 errors on the attack. Kenzie Pierce accounted for three of those blocks while Pogue and Sarah Miler each had two. Megan Steading finished with a team high 11 digs.

The Crusaders trailed the Trojans early in the first set 10-6 before seven straight points earned NGU a 13-10 lead, forcing the Trojans to call a timeout. The streak was spurred by a Taylor Dupes kill which made the score 10-7 and capped by a kill from Yomi Adeyeye. North Greenville would hold on to take the first set 25-20.

A 25-16 score in the favor of NGU in frame two would extend the Crusader overall lead to 2-0. Dupes set the tone early with an ace on the opening serve. She finished with three on the night for NGU while Pierce finished with a game high four. NGU would take a commanding lead with another lengthy scoring run with five unanswered to take a 15-8 advantage. Madison Pogue finished the Trojans off in the second set with the game winning kill, NGU's 11th of the frame.

North Greenville trailed 11-4 before NGU's third big scoring streak of the night earned the Crusaders a 15-11 lead. Kenzie Pierce took over the third frame, accounting for seven points in the 11-0 run, including three service aces and four kills. The Trojans would pull even at 17-17 before the Crusaders would shut the door with a kill from Sara Miller.

North Greenville will wrap up a busy week tomorrow in a 2pm matchup with Barton College.
