Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Women's Volleyball Team improved to 2-0 in Conference Carolinas play Friday night after a 3-0 win over the Lees-McRae Bobcats.
The Crusaders trailed late in the first set but stormed back to even the score at 24-24. The Crusaders would go on to score the next two points to earn the 26-24 win to take a 1-0 lead.
NGU trailed once again in the second set but fought back to even the score at 16-16. The Crusaders would work their way into a 23-22 lead but the Bobcats would score a kill to pull even. The Crusaders would score the new two including a kill by Yomi Adeyeye, which sealed the 25-23 victories for NGU and gave the Crusaders a 2-0 set lead.
Set three would look to be a blowout as North Greenville scored the first 14 points before the Bobcats finally broke through with a kill to make the score 14-1. Lees-McRae would battle back late thought to erase any thoughts of an NGU blowout.
The Bobcats pulled to within five of the Crusaders after putting together a string of points to cut the lead to 23-19. The Crusaders would once again put the finishing touches on the final set with consecutive kills to earn NGU a 25-19 win over the Bobcats.
The win Friday was NGU's first victory over Lees-McRae since the 2013 season. The Bobcats were 2-0 against North Greenville last season including a win in the conference playoffs. The Crusaders will host King University tomorrow afternoon at 2pm in Hayes Gymnasium.
