Raleigh, N.C.—North Greenville continued its dominating weekend on Saturday, earning a pair of 3-0 wins over Elizabeth City State, and Glennville State, wrapping up the Lady Falcon Volleyball Challenge.
The win moved the Crusaders to 2-0 on the season after a season opening win on Friday afternoon. The NGU defense held the Vikings to 12 points or less in each of the three sets played, finishing with seven blocks at the net. Madison Pogue and Haley Hester both had two block assists while Sommer Cagle, Pogue, and Annie Beisecker each had a solo block.
The Crusaders were technicians on the offensive side of the net finishing the day with a .392 hitting percentage. NGU hit .462 in the first set and an even .500 during set two. Courtney Adams, Kenzie Pierce, and Emily Timms led the way for North Greenville with five kills each. Adams finished the match perfect, going 5-5 in the kill's column.
The Crusaders were equally impressive in their second match of the day as the squad earned its third consecutive sweep. NGU took care of business, dispatching the Glenville State 3-0. The match against the Pioneers was a little more competitive as NGU took wins of 25-13, 25-15, and 25-21, but the Crusaders were just as dominant.
North Greenville hit a season high .407 for the game, capitalizing on 84 attempts with 45 kills. NGU finished with a .399 hitting percentage after the Saturday double-header. Kenzie Pierce led NGU with eight kills on 13 attempts while Sommer Cagle finished with seven points for the Crusaders. Madison Pogue quarterbacked the NGU offensive attack with 27 assists.
NGU returns to the court on Tuesday night in Orangeburg to take on Clafflin in a 6pm showdown.
