Lake Wales, Fla. - North Greenville's 2014 volleyball came to an end on Saturday morning at the NCCAA South Regional Tournament, as the Southern Wesleyan Warriors took a 3-0 win over NGU in the regional title game.
The Crusaders were downed by the Warriors for the third time this season, after playing them twice during the regular season. NGU earned a spot in Saturday's title game after defeating the tournament host Warner University 3-2 in the tournament semi-finals on Friday. SWU earned its spot after a win over Emmanuel.
The Warriors took an early 1-0 set lead after a 25-17 win. The Crusaders registered 10 kills during the opening frame with just three errors, but the Warriors checked in with 14 kills of their own. The Warriors would go on to take a pair of double digit wins over NGU in the second and third set with scores of 25-14 and 25-13, clinching the regional title and a spot in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association National Tournament.
The Crusaders finished the season with a 19-14 record overall after this weekend's tournament. Yomi Adeyeye finished Saturday as the team's leading offensive thread, pounding out eight kills. Adeyeye was also voted by coaches to the NCCAA First-Team All Region squad on Thursday evening. Rachel Burts finished two shy of Adeyeye with six kills. Elizabeth James finished with 13 assists in her final game in the red and black, while Ashlyn Wilkinson dished out 15 helpers. On defense, Hannah Lewis led the charge with 12 kills, while Burts led NGU with two solo blocks.
