Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Women's Volleyball Team gained some momentum heading into the post season after a 3-1 win over Barton College in the final regular season game of the 2014 season.
Yomi Adeyeye led North Greenville with1 5 kill. Kenzie Pierce added nine kills while dishing out two service aces. NGU's backline was also solid on Saturday, as the NGU defense racked up 83 digs, led by Hannah Lewis who had 21. Elizabeth James and Ashlyn Wilkinson also had double digit digs with 18 and 13.
The Crusaders were on the ropes early on Saturday as the Bulldogs took set one 25-23. The Crusaders rebounded however in the second set, to take a 25-22 win, tying the set total at 1-1. The two squads battled back and forth in the second frame, but NGU would finally put the win away with a 3-1 run in the final four points to take the win.
The Crusaders would ride the momentum from the second set win all the way to the finish, sweeping the next two games to take the 3-1 win. Barton battled the North Greenville squad closely, but the Crusaders never trailed, responding to several challenges from the 7-9 Bulldogs. The Crusaders won the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-18, securing a seven seed in next week's Conference Carolinas tournament.
The Crusaders wrapped up the regular season with an 18-12 overall record and a 5-8 conference mark. NGU looks to head to Limestone College on Tuesday evening for the opening round of the league tournament, in Gaffney, South Carolina. Tip time between the Saints and Crusaders is tentatively scheduled for 7pm.
