Due West, S.C—The North Greenville Women’s Volleyball Team fell to the Erskine Flying Fleet on Friday night, 3-0 in a Conference Carolinas road match.
The Crusaders were led by junior Yomie Adeyeye who added six kills to her team high for this season. Elizabeth James added four kills of her own from her setter spot, while Hannah Helbert added three kills. NGU also generated some offense at the service line as Hannah Lewis had a service ace to go with Ashlyn Wilkinson’s two.
The Crusaders played the Conference leaders close for the most of the opening set, trading points with the Flying Fleet who are now 15-0 in league play. The Crusaders led the Fleet 8-5 early in the frame, but Erskine worked its way back into the driver’s seat to take a 10-9 lead. Erskine added to its lead and took an 18-13 lead a little more than midway through. The Crusaders also responded and found themselves within striking distance after closing the gap to 20-18. The Flying Fleet would edge NGU in the first set with a 5-1 run to take the first frame 25-19.
The second and third sets would be less competitive as NGU dropped a pair of 25-15 decisions, falling to 3-7 in league play. NGU struggled on offense, managing just 21 kills in three sets. NGU’s hitting percentage at the end of the game was just .094. Elizabeth James also led NGU with 9 assists. The Crusaders will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon in Franklin Springs, Georgia against Emmanuel College.
