WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL BATTLES PAST FALCONS FOR FIRST CONFERENCE WIN
Misenheimer, N.C.—The North Greenville volleyball extended its winning streak to nine games on Friday night with a 3-1 win over the Falcons of Pfeiffer University. The Crusaders have gone 21-1  in their last 24 sets, and are now 1-0 in Conference Carolinas play.

The Crusaders had three players with double figure kills, including Kenzie Pierce who led all NGU scorers with 12. Yomi Adeyeye and Haley Hester also had double digit slams with 11 and 10. The Crusaders and Falcons fought in a closely contested first set, searching for the upper hand in set count. The Falcons led late, but two straight kills would give NGU a 20-19 lead. The Crusaders would go on to take the first set 25-23 and a 1-0 set lead.

NGU would go on to take the second set 25-15 to corner the Falcons into a must win situation after falling behind 2-0 to NGU. Pfeiffer would win another closely fought set in the third to cut the North Greenville lead to 2-0 after taking a 25-23 decision. North Greenville held advantage however, earning  25-19 fourth set victory and a 3-1 win.

NGU’s defense was key in Friday night’s victory. Hannah Lewis led the way with 20 digs from her libero spot. Also putting up double digit digs was Elizabeth James who had 16 and Ashlyn Wilkinson who had 10. The Crusaders also blocked eight Pfeiffer attempts, led by Rachel Burts who had three block assists while Kenzie Pierce added two.

NGU will travel to Belmont, North Carolina on Saturday afternoon to take on defending Conference Carolinas Champion Belmont Abbey at 1pm.
